Sustainability Appraisal / Strategic Environmental Assessment

Sustainability Appraisal (SA) is a process which examines the social, environmental and economic effects of the strategies and policies in a local development document to ensure that the decisions that are made accord with sustainable development.  SA incorporates the requirements of the Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive (EU Directive 2001/42/EC), which ensures that environmental effects of strategies and policies are also carefully assessed.

Development Management and Delivery DPD

Dartmoor National Park Authority is preparing a development plan document (DPD) called the Development Management and Delivery Development Plan Document ('DMD') setting out topic related development management policies to guide spatial development in Dartmoor National Park in the period up to 2026.  

The scoping report below was the first stage in the preparation of the sustainability appraisal report that underpins the production of the development plan document. It highlights a range of sustainability factors which need to be considered in preparing the DMD and provides a way in which different options can be tested.

The scoping report has then been followed up with a stage B Sustainability Appraisal (incorporating Strategic Environmental Assessment) to inform the preparation of the draft DMD.

Core Strategy DPD

Land Use Consultants (LUC) produced a Sustainability Appraisal / Strategic Environmental Assessment (SA/SEA) Report to inform the Core Strategy Development Plan Document of the Dartmoor National Park Local Development Framework.  This report was used to help prepare the previous Core Strategy consultation documents (the 'Issues and Options Report') and the 'Preferred Options report'), the previous assessments are also available.

An updated version was prepared by LUC to inform the Core Strategy Submission Version and this remains valid for the Adopted Core Strategy.  An SEA Adoption Statement has also been prepared.
