Planning your visit
Dartmoor National Park is located in the south west of England in the county of Devon and is within easy reach of all the main transport links – see the Travel Information page for more details.
Once you are here, call into one of our National Park Visitor Centres which are a great introduction to Dartmoor and are well stocked with maps, books and leaflets to help you learn more about the area you want to explore.
Alternatively, you can read the online Enjoy Dartmoor magazine to get ideas of what to do and where to stay. Or go to the official tourism organisation Visit Dartmoor (external website, opens in a new window) for accommodation ideas.
Before setting off, have a look at the weather forecast (external website, opens new window) and check for any live military firing (external website, opens new window) times if you are visiting north Dartmoor.
If you are interested in camping (staying on a campsite, or wild camping), there’s lots of useful information to help you.
For visitors travelling in motorhomes and camper vehicles, see our useful map to help you plan your route and read about where you can stay overnight.
