Dartmoor Farming Officer

Dartmoor Farming Officer

Grade: DNPA Grade 5

Salary: £27,741 - £32,234

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract length: 3 year fixed term contract

The Dartmoor Hill Farm Project (HFP) was established through a partnership of local farmers and organisations to help support a viable and sustainable future for Dartmoor farmers. The Project’s primary function is to provide advice and information, promote skills development, secure funding and offer a single point of contact to rural communities and partners regarding key issues.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to coordinate, shape and drive forward the HFP by providing advice, support, training and expertise in line with the needs of the Dartmoor rural community and the challenges of the agricultural transition period.

As the main point of contact for the Project you will provide and facilitate advice across key business themes such as succession, agricultural transition, farm resilience, environment, funding and wellbeing. You will also work closely with Dartmoor farmers to develop, promote and implement relevant and accessible training programmes, and act as a conduit to facilitate positive change at a critical time of uncertainty and reform.

The successful applicant will be extremely organised, have proven project management experience and excellent administration and communications skills. You will have significant experience of providing agricultural advice on topics central to farm business viability, good understanding of rural issues, and a track record of securing funding and delivering high-quality training programmes.

The post is hosted by Dartmoor National Parke Authority and will be based in our offices in Princetown and at Parke but will also involve travelling around Dartmoor. The Authority operates flexible working hours and is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

This is a 3 year fixed term contract, but the intention is to extend the contract period (subject to funding).
