Planning applications are generally decided by using the planning policies within the current local plan. The current local plan comprises the following documents.
This plan, known by us as the 'DMD', sets out two main areas of planning policy; subject specific policies (e.g. housing, extensions, conversions, employment, tourism) to guide decisions on planning applications and policies for specific sites, setting out particular areas of land for development.

The Minerals Local Plan (part 4 of the 2004 Local Plan) is used to determine planning applications for minerals and waste developments.
Local Plan Review
The current local plan is in the process of being reviewed. Visit the local plan review page for updates on the review.
The current local plan will continue to be considered when deciding planning applications until the new plan is adopted or it is decided that an emerging policy can be used, see our FAQs for further information on when we start using new policies.
