Local Plan Review
The local plan guides future development in the National Park and is the starting point when we make decisions on planning applications. A lot has changed since we adopted our current local plan and we are now going through the process of reviewing it.
We are consulting on a draft new local plan for Dartmoor between 3 December 2018 and 4 February 2019. You can download the draft plan and find out how to comment below.

In addition to public drop in events, we are also organising various Local Plan workshops for Parish Councils, local organisations and professionals.
> The Statement of Community Involvement tells you how you can get involved with the Local Plan Review, and other aspects of planning on Dartmoor
Following the consultation on the draft local plan, we will review your comments and make necessary alterations.
In autumn 2019 we will publish an updated draft local plan and invite you to comment on this.
We will once again review your comments and revise the plan, and then submit this plan, together with your comments, for examination by the planning inspectorate in 2020.
Following a successful examination we will adopt and start using the plan to determine planning applications.

Whilst this is the first formal draft of the Local Plan. we have been in the process of carrying out research, talking with communities and reviewing policies since 2016. We consulted on an Issues Paper in Autumn 2016. We’ve held 15 events attended by approximately 350 people, and received 1,717 individual written comments from 172 different individuals and organisations. In summer 2017 we invited Parish and Town Councils to comment on a set of Settlement Profiles we prepared. In autumn/winter 2017 we met with the Parish/Town Councils covering the 8 current Local Centres, in public, to discuss sites options. Around 400 councillors and members of the public attended these meetings.
