Postbridge Tramper Trail
You’ll follow a beautiful route which lasts for around 4km (2.5 miles) and takes you on a circuit that takes in forest tracks and sweeping panoramic views. While today the location feels like an escape from the crowds the forest includes many examples of people living here in the past with over 30 hut circles in the Forest dating from the Bronze Age (4,000 to 2,600 years ago).
The route is mainly gravel tracks apart from some rough grass and unsurfaced path sections halfway round.
Due to inconsistent mobile signal all Tramper users will need to be accompanied.
How to hire a tramper from Postbridge Visitor Centre
To hire a tramper from Postbridge Visitor Centre you must be a member of Countryside Mobility. Membership can be arranged on the day of your hire if you are not already a member.
All first time users will be provided with a short introduction on how the Tramper works, to ensure you feel safe and confident. You also be given an explanation of the waymarked route, which has been audited by Countryside Mobility.
Things to know before you arrive:
- Please allow 10 – 15 minutes on arrival for this introduction.
- You can save time on arrival, by checking Countryside Mobility’s medical requirements and general terms of use and watching the introductory video.
- Please bring photo ID/ proof of address.
- All users must be accompanied and be over the age of 14 in order to be insured.
Additional Information:
New members can choose from Annual (£15), 2 week ‘Taster’ (£5) or single use (£3) membership of Countryside Mobility. Annual or 'taster' membership will give you access to over 60+ hire locations across the south west and beyond.

To help cover our costs of providing this service we kindly invite a donation of £5.
The tramper can be hired between 10:30am and 12:30pm with a hire period of up to 2 hours as follows:
- 1 May to 2 November - daily
- 3 November to 31 December - weekends only
- No hire available in January - for availability from February 2026 onwards, please contact the centre direct.
All bookings are weather permitting, and subject to availability.
