Thursday August 4 - 10.00 – 14.30 (4.5 hrs)

A Belstone Adventure

Come and join us for some letterboxing, a picnic, and a paddle. This is a day full of options so you can choose how you spend your day with us.

Option 1 - The day will start with an optional visit to the lovely volunteer run café in the Belstone village hall for refreshments. Fresh homemade cake is just the thing to fuel us for the first part of our walk. (Payment to the hall by cash donations). If you prefer not to join us at the café then we will meet you in the car park at 10.30.
We begin by following the path that takes us to our moorland letterboxing site (1.8km). Here, we will use a map to find hidden boxes and collect Dartmoor stamps.
Option 2 – After completing the trail you can turn around here and follow the path back to the car park another 1.8 km or come with us following the River Taw to a beautiful picnic spot and perfect place to paddle. We will spend some time here picnicking together and making a flotilla of mini rafts to sail in the river before returning for home. (You might like to bring some water shoes)
If you join us for this part, then the whole walk would be a round trip of 5.3 km so you need to be confident that everyone in your group can not only manage this but will enjoy it too. It is possible to turn around and return to the start at anytime during the day so there is no pressure to do more than you are happy to do.
Meet at Belstone car park (SX 621 938) – opposite the village hall, northeast of the village centre. Route subject to change depending on the weather.
Bookings take from 14 July

Saturday 24 September, 10.30am (2hrs)

Visit A Dartmoor Conservation Farm

Join Ranger Rob and Conservation officer Ellie at East Shallowford to look around a medieval Dartmoor farm in the middle of the moor.

We plan to get involved with various farm animals and help in the sustainable vegetable/fruit garden area. We will learn about how the livestock is grazed in order to create habitats suitable for wildlife diversity and hopefully see some examples on site.

You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on site after the event.

Meet at East Shallowford Farm, Widecombe, TQ13 7PW, GR (SX 688 762)

For further information about the farm see www.shallowfordfarm.co.uk

Bookings taken from 5 September

To book please telephone (01626) 831080 or email education@dartmoor.gov.uk. Booking is essential for these activities as numbers are limited.
