Tavistock Neighbourhood Development Plan
Following a successful referendum, Members approved the making (adoption) of the Tavistock Neighbourhood Plan at the meeting of Authority on 25th July 2025. It now forms part of the Development Plan for Dartmoor National Park and should be used in deciding planning applications within the Tavistock Neighbourhood Area.

Examination and Referendum
Deborah McCann BSc, MRICS, MRTPI, Dip Arch, Con Dip LD was appointed as the Independent Examiner. Subject to recommended modifications, the Examiner recommended that the Neighbourhood Plan proceed to referendum.
Dartmoor National Park Authority and West Devon Borough Council agreed with the Examiner’s conclusion, and a referendum was held on Thursday 1st May 2025. The referendum achieved a turnout of 38.3% of local residents. Of these, 87.7% voted in favour of the plan.

Pre-Submission Consultation

Area Designation
Dartmoor National Park Authority confirmed its approval of Tavistock Town Council’s proposal to designate a Neighbourhood Area, for the purposes of preparing a Neighbourhood Development Plan on the 6 December 2021.
