About the challenge

You can help wildlife wherever you live by taking part in Citizen Science wildlife surveys which help create a national picture of how our wildlife is doing.

There are lots of projects to get involved with so search 'citizen science' and see what takes your fancy.

A good one to start with is wildflowers because they don’t move! Plantlife are running the Great British Wildflower Hunt to find out more about Britain’s wildflowers

In the Spring you could take part in the Garden Dragon Watch project to look for reptiles and amphibians in your garden

In the summer Butterfly Conservation organise the Big Butterfly Count

Or what about looking at how important our hedgerows are for wildlife with the Great British Hedgerow Survey

Helpful tips

If  you don't have time to get involved in one of these projects or you want something you could do as a family you could use the resources from the Open Air Laboratories (OPAL) project for lots of ideas to make your own scientific observations . Find out more  with their Soil and Earthworm survey

More information

If you still haven't found a survey to suit you have a look at this round up of opportunities for volunteers from the Countryside Jobs Service
