Dartmoor's Conchies- An illustrated talk with Simon Dell

Dartmoor's Conchies- An illustrated talk with Simon Dell

Thursday, 4 February 2021 at 19:00 - 20:00

We've organised a programme of online talks throughout 2021 to learn more about Dartmoor's incredible heritage and wildlife.

Dartmoor Prison is one of the most famous penal establishments in the country - but in 1919 it became the Princetown Work Settlement for Conscientious Objectors. These were the men who refused to go to war, disparagingly called ‘Conchies’.

They were treated abominably and this talk recounts their story which has lain hidden and unmentioned - except in hushed-tones - for a century. Simon is an author of a book on this very subject.
This is an online talk organised by Dartmoor National Park as part of a programme of monthly talks bringing Dartmoor's incredible heritage to you in the comfort of your own home. So grab your laptop, tablet or phone, find somewhere cosy, pour yourself a cup of tea and sit back as we bring Dartmoor to you.
