Brightly coloured butterflies dancing through the garden is a sight to lift the spirits as we leave winter behind but what do you know about their complicated lives?

Join us for an online talk to discover the secret lives of some of these fascinating insects with Barry Henwood, Devon County Moth recorder.

Dartmoor is a great place for butterflies and you’ll see that it is home to nationally important butterflies that thrive in its special habitats; from woodland glades, to wet meadows and areas of bracken on the open moorland.

This is the perfect time to get to grip with butterflies as the beautifully camouflaged pearl bordered fritillaries will soon be on the wing heralding a summer filled with glimpses of marsh fritillaries and other rarities.

Barry has a life-long interest in wildlife especially butterflies and moths and with Phil Sterling he wrote the Field Guide to the Caterpillars of Great Britain and Ireland, illustrated by Richard Lewington and published in 2020.  He is also Devon County Moth Recorder, managing a database of nearly 1.25 million records.

Dartmoor National Park works with Butterfly Conservation in partnership to ensure these species are conserved for the future.

The talk will take place on YouTube- you will be sent the link when you register.
