Biographical Details

John moved to Devon over 39 years ago and is a retired Company Director of a joinery firm in Newton Abbot.  He was a joiner and carpenter by trade and worked for a London building company as a Contracts Manager carrying out work for the Crowned Prince and Government of Kuwaiti.  He was previously on the DNPA as a Secretary of State Member for six years and served on several committees. He has now been on the DNPA for seven years as a representee for Teignbridge District Council. John is a Teignbridge District Councillor for the Ashburton and Buckfastleigh Ward and the Executive Member for Leisure, Recreation, Resorts and Tourism. He is also a Town Councillor for Ashburton having been twice Chairman and Mayor of Ashburton, a member of the Ashburton Courts Leet and Baron Jury having been the 1199th and 1200th Portreeve of Ashburton. Is Chairman of the Ashburton and Buckfastleigh Health and Wellbeing Centre Hospital League of Friends, a member of the Royal British Legion and a member of the RSPCA, and a member of the National Trust. John is also on the Council of Governors for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, and a committee member on the Exe Estuary Management Partnership. John enjoys gardening, bird watching and walking his dog. He is a keen supporter with regards to the environment and climate change and Ashburton becoming plastic free.
