Biographical Details

Mike was born and bred in Bridford, before moving to Moretonhampstead in 1961. Mike joined the retained Fire Service and retired after 37 years, he followed his father and grandfather in the Construction industry and in later years became a Boiler Service Engineer - always self-employed. Alongside his father and one other, they built the swimming pool at Moreton, all in their spare time and voluntary.

Mike joined the Parish Council in 1976, the District Council and Dartmoor National Park Authority in 1999, serving 24 and 20 years respectively. He has a good knowledge of Dartmoor, especially the industrial archaeology as he leads walks on to the moor and likes to impart his knowledge to others. Mike’s hobbies are woodturning, making working models and small tools which are on display in his workshop.
