Challenge 30: Make a bird feeder

About the challenge

Help the birds where you live. Make a simple bird feeder to provide food for your local birdlife. Take an open pinecone and wrap some string around it so it can be hung up. Mix some lard or solid vegetable fat with some bird seed then squeeze the mixture into the pinecone.

Keep an eye out on what visits and enjoy the company.

Helpful tips

There are lots of great ideas from the RSPB and other organisations about making feeders from recycled materials to elaborate DIY projects. The important thing is to keep feeding the birds with the food they want and to clean the feeders regularly.
