About the challenge

Explore Dartmoor after dark.

Dartmoor’s dark skies are perfect for stargazing and looking at the constellations. With less light pollution more of the stars in the night sky are revealed. You could also get closer to the nighttime wildlife. If you are near a woodland you might hear the cries of a tawny owl or on the heathland the churrs of a nightjar. There are lots of great spots to go and you don’t need to go far from your car, just turn the lights out and let your eyes tune into the dark skies

Helpful tips

One of the best ways to experience the natural world at night is to camp. There are lots of ways to do this.

If you’ve not done it before you could try camping in your back garden, then if it’s not for you, you can always sneak back into a warm bed!
