Meet George Templer and other characters on this short promenade walk around Haytor Quarry to mark the 201st anniversary of the granite tramway.

George Templer built Devon’s first railroad …out of granite... but it almost cost him everything.

He kept a tame pack of foxes, was a poet, partygoer and loved to put on amateur dramatic shows. Inspired by this love of performance we’ve created our own light-hearted tribute to the great man. Be prepared for wooden acting, a bit of silliness and a sprinkling of facts as George and friends put on the show of his life.

This walk would suit everyone 8+ who wants an irreverent introduction to the life of George Templer. It is organised and run by the DNPA Education team (what we lack in acting ability we make up for in enthusiasm!) There is a short steep climb on grassy paths to the quarry where it levels out. Following the tramway the path is level but uneven
