Amending Planning Applications

Amending Planning Applications

We strongly encourage applicants and agents to use our pre-application advice service before submitting a planning application. Early engagement helps to improve the quality of proposals, reduce delays, and minimise the need for changes once an application has been submitted.

Once a planning application has been validated, it is at the Authority’s discretion whether:

  • to accept any changes
  • to decide if further consultation is required
  • or to advise that the changes are so significant that a new application is needed

To help us process applications as efficiently as possible, our default position is not to seek or accept amendments after validation.

When amendments may be accepted

We recognise there will be occasions where small changes or additional details can improve a proposal. In such cases, we may accept minor revisions to live applications, provided that:

  • they do not materially change the nature or scale of the proposal
  • they do not increase or materially change the red site boundary (unless requested by the Local Planning Authority)
  • they do not require a new 21-day consultation period or readvertisement (assessed on a case by case basis)
  • they are submitted within 28 days of registration of the application (unless otherwise agreed with the case officer)
  • they are accompanied by a completed amendments form (available below)

Amendments that do not meet these criteria will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances, at the planning officer’s discretion, and will normally require an agreed extension of time (4 weeks for minor applications and 8 weeks for major applications) to allow for any appropriate public re-consultation to take place.

How to submit amendments a live application

Once you have discussed the proposed changes with your case officer and they have confirmed that revised plans would be appropriate, please:

  1. Prepare the amended plans/documents.
  2. Complete the amendments form.
  3. Email both the revised plans and the completed form to: planning@dartmoor.gov.uk.

If you are unsure whether your proposed changes are likely to be accepted as amendments or will require a new application, please contact your case officer for advice.
