Moorland Key Wildlife Areas

The habitats of blanket bog, upland heath, grass moor and bracken, lowland heath and valley mire, which were combined into the Upland Heath SNAs in the SW Nature Map, are referred to here as Moorland Key Wildlife Areas. The mapping has produced one very large moorland KWA which forms a central block stretching to the northern and southern edges of the National Park boundary, with arms of habitat stretching out to the east and west. It comprises most of the open commons of Dartmoor and covers 53% of the DNP landscape (498 square km).
